Dingle Peninsula, Circle of Kerry, Atlantic way and Galway.

With our quick overnight stay in Killarney, we set of along the Atlantic Way to the most eastern point of Ireland.
On the way we did part of the Circle of Kerry and onto Dingle, Slea Head, Cork and Gort.
The main roads along this route are very narrow, two lanes and if you pass a bus or large vehicle, you pull to one side and let them pass.
The roads are all surrounded by man made rock walls, cudos to my son Alex for being such a competent driver.
We drove to the most eastern point of Ireland, Slea Head,  viewed the Basket Islands and saw where Star Wars, the return of the Jedi was filmed, then made our way back to Dingle, this was a very rugged and beautifully formed coastline.
On the way we stopped to view the beehive huts, made 7,000BC and to just look, and enjoy this amazing scenery.
The weather although crisp, is not altogether unpleasant, we do have sunshine and it is quite windy on the coast.
After our exploration of this part of the coastal road we went back into Dingle for lunch and a look aground this fishing village, as you can imagine, not a lot was open due to being off season, what was open were the pubs for fish and chips and also Murphy’s who are famous for their ice creams.

Shop fronts in Dingle

We had a double rainbow whilst on this coast road.

Dunmore Head is where Star Wars, Return of the Jedi was filmed.

These religious statues are all along the coastal roads

Beehive huts dating back to 7,000 BC, they were used to house families and store goods as well as livestock

Another great photo of our rainbow
Beautiful farm scenery with the man made rock walls, everything is so green

Murphy’s ice cream store, their best selling ice cream is sea salt that they get from the ocean, we had a taste test and you get just a hint of salt, otherwise like a vanilla ice cream..

You can appreciate just how narrow these roads are, two lanes but not very wide and you have to pull to the side, if a big truck or bus comes

 Typical Irish saying.
An explanation of Murphy’s ice cream and their history..
.After we had lunch in Dingle we continued on our way to Galway, on the way we stopped in Gort, and I had an op shop fix, three actually, all very close to one another.
We had quite a full day of driving and arrived into Galway after passing  and seeing
Bunratty Castle, we checked into our air B&B where we will be for the next four nights and exploring Galways and it’s surroundings.

More about our Ireland tour, later..
