Rewards and Birthdays.

My reward for going to visit my mother- Inlaw in a Belmont nursing home with DH, was on the proviso that DH takes me to a quilt shop and quilt show on the way home. The Fairholme Quilt show was on in Thornleigh. The quilt shop was the Craft depot in Pennant Hills. I feel that I must have a lot of fabric, because my purchases were very minimal.

Just to share a few photos of the quilts on display.

What stood out at this quilt show was a number of Chris  Jurd Designs.

That's all the quilts folks, except for a miniature Anne Levens hexagons

Father's Day and birthdays

Happy Father's Day to my darling hubby who is the best father to our two boys and their partners and Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there I hope that you all had a great day with family. It has been 8 months since we adopted our Princess Warrior Xena, and as we did not know when she was born, the Vet told us how old she was by her milk teeth and when she got her molars so,  the 1st of September was designated as her birthday, In combination with Fathers day, Xena celebrated her  birthday. My daughter in law bought her a dog friendly cake from  gourmet doggy treats. The cake is made with banana, carob and egg whites, beautifully decorated and had a gorgeous black doggy on top for decoration, I wanted to keep this but Xena had other ideas, she ate the sculptured dog before I could rescue it, it was so funny watching her.
Xena and her dog friendly birthday cake, note the little sculptured black dog on top, so like Xena.

I have also been doing some quilting and finally after a lot of hand sewing, have started to put the quilt together. A sneak peek below.
I have hand sewn 301  1"hexagons and only 129 to go, I just love the use of all my reproduction and civil war fabrics, I have been attending classes with Chris Jurd, who is an amazing teacher. She has adapted this design from an old quilt and the result is stunning.

Birthdays, gourmet Wednesday and completed quilting.

The 21st August saw my darling husbands birthday, he also shares this day with a very dear friend of mine. Happy birthday Lesley, I hope that you also had a great day with family and friends. Hubby was lucky this year as his birthday fell on a Wednesday which is our family night and fondly named by my friend Christine "gourmet Wednesday". Hubby was spoilt and was given by our eldest son and partner a steeden limited edition south's leather football in a case and he was very pleased, our youngest son gave him a tap king, "Hahn super dry" I am sure he really bought t for himself as he was desperate  to crack it and share it with his father. My gift to him is allowing him to accompany me on a trip to Japan in November, we are going for the Yokohama Quilt festival, so whilst over there will also visit Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan has been on our bucket list for awhile so out of the blue I decided to book and go. I really love to cook for the family and we always have a great time together,  especially when we have something to celebrate. I feel very blessed with our boys and their partners. Menu for gourmet Wednesday was oyster Kilpatrick, beer battered prawns with mango aioli, crumbed mushrooms stuffed with Brie, main meal was crumbed cutlets and I did a white chocolate passion fruit mousse for dessert. Very enjoyable.

Birthdays

What an enjoyable few days in prelude to my birthday, I  Feel very spoilt by my wonderful family. Great night out Saturday, with my children who are such a delight.  Nothing is better than spending time with one's family. My daughter in-law arranged a lunch at Vaucluse House tea rooms and a tour of the house and gardens. This house was built by William Charles Wentworth, an English gentleman who was in Australia, from 1827 to 1862 he was also one of the first explorers to cross the Blue Mountains. He lived with his wife Sara and their 10 children in this house. Sunday was an enjoyable day out in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, even though we had torrential rain and was difficult getting around in the wet weather.
