We left Kraków after our three day stay and travelled by train to Warsaw, which took 2 1/2hrs. A very comfortable trip. Warsaw's population is 1.2,000,000. In WW2, 85% of Warsaw was bombed or set fire too, so the city in itself is relatively new. All reconstruction has been done in the 1950's.
We opted to do a city tour and then explore old town. As we walked and viewed structures on many that have been restored were bullet holes from WW2.
The statue of Chopin, the weeping willow is above his head.
Gardens in the summer palace, Isle of pines park.
Coat of arms, when Lithuania and Poland United.
The Warsaw Ghetto fighters monument
The Bristol Hotel in Old Town.
Lovely buildings, all reconstructed after the war.
The town square in Old town
Beautiful ornate churches
Castle in Old Town square
The square, baroque style buildings
Half woman, half mermaid statue, a myth.
Gates protecting the old town.
Monument to all fallen and killed, sent to Siberia, never to return.
Warsaw has lots of graffiti and monuments, not as old as Kraków, but very interesting place to visit, we leave Poland tomorrow by bus and head to Lithuania.
