Goodbye Northern Europe, hello Russia

Tuesday saw us walk to the metro station to catch our train to St Petersburg, a journey that will take us 2hrs 27 mins. Whilst on the train we cleared Russian customs and had a pleasant journey.
On arrival into St Petersburg, first looks, not impressed, picked up by our driver, deposited to our hotel, first glimpse of Church of spilled blood, looks better, checked in and out to explore.
On our first day, 9th May, also Victory Day in Russia, we had a tour to the summer Palace, these are the Egyptian gates, on entry to the estate.
The summer palace, of course I took plenty of photos, to many to post, such opulence.
The Hermitage joined with the palace, where Elizabeth held her functions.

Victory day, a huge celebration in Russia
We were caught up in the thousands of people in the parade.
The beautiful Singer building
Monument in main square, near St Issac's

St Anne's Cathederal
The science museum, where we viewed culture of different countries and human abnormalities.

The archway walking to the Winter Palace and The Hermitage museum, over 3,000,000 works of art, again, opulent.
The bronze horseman. Peter the Great.

The Narva gate, 1827-1834, tribute to defeat if Napolean.
Church of spilled blood.

The Rostral Columns, on the streaks of Vasilyevsky Isalnd, stands 32mtrs high.
Barbuska dolls everywhere, not cheap.

St Petersburgh Angel, dedicated to old men from Lenigrad, Russia, after surviving all the adversities of the first half of the 20th century, civil war, hunger and loss of loved ones.
St Petersburg is surrounded by canals.
We loved St Petersburg, so much to see and do,the four days we spent here was full on and we both felt that you need at least a good week to see and do everything.

That's a wrap, on Hare Island in Peter and Paul fortress. Off to Moscow to commence our Transiberian railway journey.
